Description
We are looking for two experienced Security Officers to maintain the safety and security of the Museum Collections and Estate, ensuring the safety of staff and visitors. Responsibilities include patrolling, monitoring systems, managing a reception facility, and maintaining records.

Job Purpose
- Maintain safety and security for Museum collections, displays, and estate.
- Ensure the safety of staff and visitors, contributing to an enhanced visitor experience.
Job Overview
- Average of 37 hours per week with 12-hour rotating shifts.
- Responsibilities include patrolling, monitoring systems, managing a reception facility, and maintaining records.
Key Responsibilities
- Security and Customer Care
- Conduct radio communications and patrols.
- Monitor CCTV cameras and maintain security.
- Provide reception services and assist Visitor Services.
- Assist with health and safety measures.
- Record incidents and maintain contractor records.
- Cover for absent colleagues and conduct fire alarm tests.
- Emergency Response
- Assist during incidents and liaise with emergency services.
- Ensure building evacuation and monitor alarms.
- Maintain clear radio contact.
- Maintenance and Cleaning
- Perform maintenance tasks as directed.
- Keep museum frontage clean and tidy.
- General Duties
- Handle incoming mail, provide security induction, and control traffic.
- Conduct test checks and routines.
- Act as a first aider and attend Security Team Meetings
Requirements
- Security operations experience.
- Knowledge of health and safety guidelines.
- Experience with the public in a large site, preferably a museum.
- Good general education and literacy skills.
- First Aid at Work certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Effective communication and teamwork and basic IT skills.
- Empathy with the Horniman mission and commitment to equality.
- Good timekeeping, reliability, and alertness.
- Able to work shifts, including overnight, weekends and holidays.
- A Basic DBS check is required. Job activities may vary over time.
